Brett Kavanaugh participates in swearing-in ceremony at White House

Even before Saturday's Senate vote made Brett Kavanaugh a Supreme Court justice, senators from both parties said voters soon would deliver the final verdict on President Donald Trump's divisive appointment.

He described Kavanaugh as "a man that did nothing wrong, a man that was caught up in a hoax that was set up by the Democrats, using the Democrats" lawyers'.

Mr Kavanaugh was accused by several women of sexual misconduct, including California professor Christine Blasey Ford who testified under oath that the judge tried to assault her at a high school party decades ago. In an emotionally charged testimony, Kavanaugh denied Ford's assault accusations as well as allegations that he drank more excessively than his peers in his younger years.

"You, sir, under historic scrutiny, were proven innocent", Trump said to Kavanaugh.

"I'm doing rallies and people are loving that man and loving that choice", he said while in Florida.

According to WCCO's Reg Chapman, the Minneapolis FBI said they are aware of the tweet.

He did not cite "tradition going back to the 1880s" but noted that Joe Biden, when he was the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1992, said action on a Supreme Court nominee should be postponed until after an election "once the political season is underway".

"We live in this world where it's just the nine of us", Kagan said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shared the president's optimism.

Asked about the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh that day, Carrey added, "Today is not the end of the world".

The bitter partisan fight over Kavanaugh's nomination became a firestorm after sexual misconduct allegations emerged involving Kavanaugh.

Last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation completed a report on sexual misconduct allegations against Mr Kavanaugh - but the findings have not been released to the public.

When Sen. Susan Collins announced, on Friday, October 5, that she would be voting "yes" on Brett M. Kavanaugh's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, the four-term senator from ME went out of her way to convince Kavanaugh's detractors that he wasn't almost the far-right extremist they thought he was. "But I think the tendency is to get over that on the court and to put that behind you".

Kavanaugh was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday, earning 50 "yes" votes - the fewest for any Supreme Court justice in the modern era.

And McConnell again defended blocking President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, in 2016, calling the move "practical".

A separate, public swearing-in ceremony is planned for 7:00 pm (2300 GMT) Monday in the White House's East Room. "The democrats have become too extreme and too unsafe to govern", Trump said.

But after being sworn in, Kavanaugh struck a markedly more conciliatory tone. A ruling to overturn the doctrine could mean that pardons by Trump in federal cases would block similar state charges, even though states could continue to pursue unrelated charges against the same people.
