'60 Minutes' executive producer Jeff Fager out at CBS

"I am that reporter", CBS journalist Jericka Duncan announced on CBS Evening News Wednesday night, recounting her exchange with Fager.

If you repeat these false accusations without any of your own reporting to back them up, you will be responsible for harming me.

Fager was sacked Wednesday over the message.

Julie Chen's return to Big Brother is one thing - she hosts the show alone and only interacts with sequestered house guests who have no idea what is going on outside of the Big Brother bubble - but returning to The Talk, the daytime show she has moderated since 2010, could prove to be more challenging.

Back in August, the New Yorker's Ronan Farrow had reported that Fager had touched women inappropriately at company functions, not to mention allowed an abusive senior producer to run amok - reporting that this blog expanded.

Fager, in a statement to CNN, said the text was a demand that "she be fair in covering the story".

"It's even hard to say that today because, yes, we do receive harsh language all the time, but this is someone who held an enormous amount of power here, who I respected, and I was shocked", Duncan said.

He ended, "One such note should not result in termination after 36 years, but it did". Late past year, former "CBS This Morning" host Charlie Rose was sacked after more than 2 dozen women accused him of sexual misconduct. A former CBS intern, Sarah Johansen, also told Farrow that Fager groped her at a work party. In August, he denied the allegations, telling The New Yorker that his accusers were "using an important movement as a weapon", apparently referencing the "Me Too" movement.

Fager previously served as chairman of CBS News and became executive producer of 60 Minutes in 2003.

The staffers received nothing approaching a detailed explanation, though Duncan's report, which aired on the "CBS Evening News" on Wednesday, filled in that particular gap. Rhodes was then brought in as news president, taking over full management of the news division when Fager went back to exclusively running "60 Minutes".

Rhodes said Fager violated company policy but did not specify the policy.

But Fager has said that women have made significant advances at the broadcast, to the point where a majority its producers and associate producers are now women. She attempted to reach out to get his side of the story regarding the sexual misconduct allegations raised in a series of articles from the New Yorker, reports the Washington Post.

Bill Owens will manage "60 Minutes" as the company searches for a replacement, Rhodes said in his memo, adding the interim CEO of CBS, Joe Ianniello, "is in full support of the decision and the transition to come".
