Cheaper RTX 2080 cards will arrive after the initial launch

Asus has also revealed its take on the GeForce RTX cards with prices for Blighty, with the RTX 2080 starting at £889.30 and topping out with a cranked up RTX 2080 Ti costing £1,344.

But given everything else NVIDIA's Turing architecture can do, including real-time ray tracing and AI acceleration, you can expect the 2080 Ti to be capable of much more.

Nvidia launched a new lineup of graphics cards at an event in Germany on Monday.

NVIDIA just dropped a massive bombshell on the gaming community with its GeForce RTX family of products, which include the RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070. It's recommended for those who have the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, 2080, and 2070. Nvidia's Project Sol is the name of the tech demo which is kind of showing off the end result of Ray Tracing and you can get a sense of the level of graphical output possible with these new RTX GPUs.

Founders Edition cards are set to return, too, sporting a twin fan shroud rather than the single "blower" style cooler seen on last-generation Founders Edition GeForce GPUs. A lot of new games already boast of Real-Time Ray Tracing support ordained by Nvidia.

The new cards, which effectively replace the current GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080, and GTX 1070, aim to push the boundaries of what we call "next-gen". Which is nice and all, but we're still a few years away from games using this technology.

Battlefield V and Metro Exodus were also shown on-stage to demonstrate the effect the RTX pipeline in in-game scenes. The 2080 follows with 8 GigaRays/sec, 60 trillion RTX-OPS, and 8GB of memory. Here RTX refers to real-time ray tracing which promises to deliver cinema-quality light and shadow reflections to gaming.

Although it's worthy of note that improvements to the inner-workings of the graphics architecture allows it to make more use of its TFLOPS than Pascal, which would put the RTX 2070 ahead of the GTX 1080 as previous leaks have suggested. As is usual for NVIDIA, numerous GPUs on the market carrying the GeForce RTX name won't be manufactured by NVIDIA themselves, but instead produced by partner firms. Specifically, they are the: RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Ti. GTX is out, and RTX is in, and it indicates Nvidia has chose to put all its money on Ray Tracing as the flagship feature for this new generation of GPUs.
