World Cup star refuses to do Arsenal medical in Russian Federation

Arsenal expect to complete the signing of Lucas Torreira next week but do not anticipate adding any more senior players to their first team squad this summer.

How soon an official announcement is made depends upon whether or not the 22-year-old flies to London direct from Russian Federation or heads home to Uruguay first, according to the BBC.

That is the claim of the player's father.

Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira and France Under-20 global Matteo Guendouzi are set to have medicals at Arsenal on Monday.

The Gunners did offer the player to undergo a medical in Russian Federation, but the player rejected as he wanted to commit wholly on national duty.

It is as good as a fact that Lucas will join Arsenal.

Arsenal has already agreed a £26.4million deal with Sampdoria who are ready to let go of the defensive midfielder this summer because the gunners have met their asking price.

"The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining". He, alongside the rest of his Uruguayan teammates, finds himself staring at the chance of playing in the World Cup semi final should his nation get the better of France on Saturday afternoon, but a move to England is weighing on his mind.

Right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner joined on a free transfer after leaving Juventus, while goalkeeper Bernd Leno and centre-back Sokratis Papastahopoulos arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
