Demetrious Johnson's long UFC title reign comes to shocking end

Dillashaw took his back and rained down some ground-and-pound, but Garbrandt managed to get back up even though he was clearly on auto-pilot at that point. A high clinch knee finally ended the murderous exchange to a hurt Garbrandt as Ref Herb Dean forced the stoppage.

On believing he tore his lateral collateral ligament and broke his foot: "I remember we were scrambling, and I maybe shot, and then he kind of pushed me over, and I rolled over my right knee, and I felt the pop, and I was like, 'There goes the right LCL - fantastic".

Cejudo ended Demetrious Johnson's almost six-year reign as the UFC flyweight champion Saturday night at Staples Center, earning a split-decision victory over the most dominant active champion in the sport. Dillashaw countered Garbrandt's aggression, dropping his opponent with a thunderous strike of his own - but unlike "No Love", Dillashaw kept his head and employed a more measured approach in pursuit of the win.

"This cements my legacy as the greatest bantamweight of all time", Dillashaw said.

Asked about a potential super fight with Cejudo, Dillashaw said, "It sounds like a fun fight".

After his historic flyweight title win, Cejudo said he wanted a crack at the bantamweight title next, and a shot at the night's main event victor. I wouldn't say it should happen. There is a very big card coming up in NY with numerous top guys from my division on it and I would like to join them. If anyone deserves an immediate rematch, it's Johnson, who suffered his first loss in seven years.

As much as the champion versus champion fight might interest Dillashaw, there are plenty of options available to him in the bantamweight division as well. "They're 1-1. It makes sense". Moraes is a well-rounded fighter and a former World Series of Fighting champion - I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull out a victory over Dillashaw. I know he likes to play a risky game. "Cody was going to come out thinking I was gonna throw kicks and move around, take it easy - but I know he doesn't have a chin".

Garbrandt, a native of Uhrichsville, Ohio, went undefeated for four years before suffering his first loss to Dillashaw. I was born right here in Los Angeles, in a two bedroom apartment so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to these fans in California for their support.
