Samsung phones may be sending pictures to random people

The reports suggest that this bug in the Samsung Messages app doesn't leave any trace behind that it has automatically sent photos from the device to a random person.

"Last night around 2:30 am, my phone sent [my girlfriend] my entire photo gallery over text but there was no record of it on my messages app". How many people received private photos, without alerting the owner, is unknown. Samsung is now investigating reports from users who say their devices have recently begun doing this. Samsung says it has teams investigating events.

This doesn't seem to be an isolated case as some users have commented in the same post that they too have experienced the problem. "However, there was record of it on tmobile logs".

One user wrote on Reddit that his Galaxy S9+ send his entire photo gallery to his girlfriend, while he was sleeping at night. Some users on the forum are complaining that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are also facing the issue.

Another user added: "Oddly enough, my wife's phone did that last night, and mine did it the night before". Unfortunately, these updates may have interacted badly with Samsung's Messages app, according to the report. The mostly likely cause for the problem is a recent update to Samsung Messages, the default texting app for Samsung phones.

KitGuru Says: This is an very bad bug to have in your Messaging app, I think it's a nightmare scenario for many people just to have their images dumped to a random contact.

For those of you looking for a workaround while the company tries to fix the problem, your options appear to be going into your device's app settings and revoking "Samsung Messages' ability to access storage".

T-Mobile told The Verge that it was not an issue with its services and advised people checked with Samsung.
