Spurs 'Ready' to Move on from Kawhi Leonard

Before the Philadelphia 76ers and their fans know it, the Kawhi Leonard situation will finally be figured out, as it seems like only a matter of time before the star forward is no longer a member of the San Antonio Spurs. James has until 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday night to exercise the one-year player option remaining on his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst reported that despite the Spurs' attempts to make peace with their disgruntled star, an overwhelming offer from the Lakers could spark a deal.

San Antonio has been checking the market to see what kind of return it could get for Leonard, but it's hard to see things working out with the Celtics given the questions surrounding Leonard's health and plans. After rupturing a quad tendon during Game 2 of the Spurs' 2017 Western Conference semifinals series with the Houston Rockets on May 5, Parker returned to game action November 27.

ESPN reports that the Lakers are said to be assembling an overwhelming offer for Leonard, an attempt to not only land him but also have enough cap space to sign LeBron.

"San Antonio has informed teams its preferred target in any Leonard trade is the Celtics' Jayson Tatum, sources say", Sports Illustrated's Jake Fischer reported on Thursday.

Also, depending on what moves the Lakers make, it's very possible that Brook Lopez (UFA), Julius Randle (RFA) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (UFA) will also be gone.

League sources told ESPN on Wednesday that is exactly the case right now as the two clubs are currently in discussions, with the pressure especially on the Lakers. However, the Lakers aren't alone in their pursuit of the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. San Antonio would nearly certainly insist on getting players such as Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram plus draft picks in return.

There was a lot that led to the Spurs' deteriorating relationship with Kawhi Leonard over the course of last season.

However, the Lakers could receive some help from Leonard, who is due to become a free agent next summer.
