Grigor Dimitrov upset by Fernando Verdasco in French Open third round

Three-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic says he "doesn't know if I am going to play on grass" after losing in the French Open quarter-finals.

Madison Keys beat Yulia Putintseva 7-6 (5), 6-4 to qualify for the last four at Roland-Garros for the first time in her career.

Djokovic broke for 3-1, seeing out the decisive moments in a set where he won only three more points than his opponent.

Djokovic has now made the last 16 of a Slam for the 43rd time, tying Jimmy Connors on the all-time list.

He replied: "I don't know".

"I think that's the matchup most of the fans in Germany and Austria were hoping for when they saw the draw", he said.

'I need to - I don't know.

"Me and my brother are guys that spend three, four hours a day in the gym, lifting heavy weights, on the treadmill".

"But I still wanted to finish the match and give the credit to Dominic".

"How do I regroup?" "So now it's really just managing your expectations and your nerves and the moment". Cecchinato, who dropped onto his back on the clay after winning, is the lowest-ranked man to get to the semifinals in Paris in 19 years _ and about as unlikely as anyone to get this far at a big tournament.

Djokovic had two set points at 6-5 in the second but went on to lose the tiebreak.

Novak Djokovic booked his place in the fourth round of the French Open with a hard-fought victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on Friday.

Verdasco, who beat fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in the previous round, needed treatment for blisters as Djokovic was made to wait before serving out for two-love lead.

After that, the feisty Spaniard took charge and got well on top, breaking Dimitrov twice to take the second set.

Against Djokovic, his sliding across the court was almost flawless, as was his ability to disguise his angles until the last moment in what was perhaps the match of the tournament so far.

But on number four Djokovic left a looping backhand return which landed just in and Cecchinato celebrated a famous victory, 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 1-6 7-6 (13-11).

The 21-year-old Zverev claimed his third successive comeback win in five sets to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final, beating Russian Khachanov 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

"It was an unbelievable, high level match", said Zverev. It's fantastic. It's unbelievable for me.

"Considering all the circumstances in the last 15 months it is quite an achievement to get to the quarters of a Slam", said Djokovic, who has also reached the Roland Garros last eight for a ninth successive year.
