Israeli-Russian South Syria agreement not accepted by US

Israeli-Russian South Syria agreement not accepted by US

In the interview with RT, the Russian state's global broadcaster, Mr Assad raised the prospect of conflict with USA forces if they do not leave Syria.

But he said he will reclaim their territory by force, if necessary.

"But they (US and Israel) should know that this condition is not going to change", he told the news agency.

The attack triggered US, French and British missile strikes against what they called chemical weapons targets, the first coordinated Western strikes against Mr Assad's government of the war. The public discussion between Jerusalem and Moscow on one hand and Moscow and Damascus on the other is therefore wrapped in semantics. "They have to learn the lesson".

Muallem also said that the presence of U.S. forces in Syria was illegitimate and they must withdraw from the Syrian territory, including Tanf area in the south.

Shamkhani's statement was made after Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, stressed that Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezballah militia should leave southwestern Syria as soon as possible.

"Don't believe the remarks about a deal in southern Syria unless the US withdraws from al-Tanf", al-Moallem said.

The SDF, dominated by the militia of a self-proclaimed Kurdish autonomous administration, has air support from the US-led coalition against IS and backing from USA and French special forces on the ground. "We see there is a gap between Iranian and Russian interests, and Netanyahu has been explaining that", Abrams said. "It will just add more miseries to the people of Syria".

US President Donald Trump has expressed his plans to pull the US military out of war-torn Syria but officials have persuaded him to allow them to remain until Islamic State fighters are vanquished along the Syria-Iraq border.

There has been a surge in Israeli violence against people of Gaza in recent weeks.

That includes large parts of the north and east where USA special forces deployed during the fight against Islamic State, supporting the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Mr Assad declined to say how much longer the war will continue but said he intends to bring all parts of the country back under his control.

The SDF wants a "democratic system based on diversity, equality, freedom, and justice" for all the country's ethnic and religious groups, he said in a voice message to Reuters.

Tensions between Washington and Damascus boiled over in April, when US and allied warplanes launched a series of airstrikes against suspected chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

On Friday, the newspaper reported Israel and Russian Federation had reached an agreement green-lighting Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in Syria, as well as the withdrawal of Tehran-backed troops from Syria's border with Israel.

Scores of Iranian soldiers have been killed in battles with insurgents in Syria, including a number of officers. "As a result, ... only the Syrian Army troops should be stationed at the Syrian border with Israel", the Russian minister said at a joint press-conference with his counterpart from Mozambique.
