Stanley Cup: Washington Capitals draw level with Vegas Golden Knights

Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant for months talked about his team's hard work, ability to battle and their devotion to playing a full "200 feet of hockey".

During Game Two of the Capitals' Stanley Cup Final matchup against the Golden Knights, goaltender Braden Holtby made a miraculous save, helping to ensure the score remained 3-2 in favor of the Caps through the final buzzer.

The save obviously was huge, as the series now shifts to the nation's capital tied at one game apiece. "Of course it's very important to see him skating and I'm pretty sure he's going to be OK (for Game 3)".

Alex Tuch collected the skittering puck with absolutely nothing between him and the tying goal with two minutes left in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

The Capitals did it better even though they allowed 39 shots on goal.

"I don't know how it's going to be", said Capitals winger T.J. "They evened it up from last game". The list goes on, mostly for small-dollar "souvenir" bets, forcing casinos to brace for heavy losses.

That would be one heck of a deal for a truly gifted shooter who dominated the KHL since the 2013-14 season after generating exactly a point-per-game (816 points in as many contests) during his outstanding National Hockey League career.

"Our team does a really great job of not letting the game get too big for us", Schmidt said.

Oshie said "energizes." Coach Barry Trotz preferred "galvanizes" to describe what the hit did for his team, especially since the Caps felt McNabb's check may have crossed the line of legality.

After getting battered in the Knights' 6-4 series-opening win, Holtby made several big saves throughout Game 2, coming up particularly big while Washington killed a 5-on-3 disadvantage for 1:09 earlier in the third period. You stop at the sports book, get a ticket, go to the game, come back. It's no excuse for us. "We knew if we just stuck with it, did the right things, something would go our way".

Washington's Jakub Vrana nearly restored the two-score lead late in the second period, but hit the right post much to the delight of Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

The usual pre-game pomp at T-Mobile Arena, which includes showgirls lining the glass in the Washington end during warmups and a knight defeating an opponent in a sword battle on the ice, also featured a performance by Las Vegas band Imagine Dragons and an appearance by UFC legend Randy Couture. You can catch the game on Sportsnet 650. But the violence has been real, with Brooks Orpik unable to speak to reporters after scoring the Game 2 victor because of a crosscheck he received to the mouth late in the third period. It was his first goal since February 26, 2016.

"My heart stopped on the bench", said Caps' forward Andre Burakovsky.

Holtby's save helped the Capitals to their first-ever Stanley Cup win, 3-2. The Capitals return to Capital One Arena, where they have just a 4-5 record in the postseason.

He said the excitement around the Golden Knights is palpable in Vegas.
