She underwent surgery at Walter Reed hospital on May 14 for what aides called a benign kidney condition and was released on May 19.

"She's doing really well", communications director Stephanie Grisham tells ABC News in a statement.

His White House doctor said earlier this year that Trump acknowledged he would be healthier if he lost some weight by exercising more and eating better.

Melania Trump has also not been present for several other White House events that first ladies usually attend.

Grisham said the disappearance from the public eye isn't unusual.

Absence seems to make the heart grow fonder, however, because in the last month Melania's approval rating jumped 10 points to 57 percent.

Inside the White House kitchens, chefs have been instructed to find ways to limit fat and calories in the dishes they prepare for Trump's meals, including the lunches and dinners he convenes nearly daily with members of his Cabinet, lawmakers, outside advisers or visiting foreign dignitaries.

She spoke out after wild - and totally unsubstantiated - internet rumors claimed that she had dumped Donald Trump and moved back to NY, reports Politico.

She tweeted Wednesday: 'I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing.

"Where are the 1500 missing children, and where is Melania Trump?".

Melania Trump has taken to Twitter to reveal why we haven't seen her in a couple of weeks.

"We must break down barriers to youth sports participation and empower each child to reach his or her full potential through sport and play", Ivanka Trump said.

The first lady's tweet was an attempt to tamp down rumors about her whereabouts since her last public appearance, back on on May 10.

"I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing". I wouldn't characterize it as a long absence.

On May 25, a reporter shouted a question to the president about his wife's whereabouts as he prepared to board Marine One. On May 26, a week after she got out of the hospital, an anti-Trump tweeter, Bill Palmer of the Palmer Report, posted about her being "missing".

Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and senior adviser, said that the Aspen Institute found that 37 percent of children played team sports on a regular basis in 2016, down from almost 45 percent in 2008.
