Legal experts weigh in on Wildwood arrest video

Police have released bodycam video of a confrontation between police and a 20-year-old woman on the beach this past Saturday afternoon whom police accused of underage drinking.

Weinman now faces several charges, including two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. The altercation between Weinman and the officers heats up after the woman refuses to give her last name and takes a few steps away from the scene.

"OK, that's it ― I'm done with you", one police officer can be heard saying in the video before asking his partner for handcuffs.

"You're not allowed to hit me and choke me like that", Weinman shouts.

When he tries to arrest her, she resists and hurls expletives as they struggle in the sand. "But when you're doing it and someone is actively resisting arrest, you don't always hit your intended target", Regalbuto said. She tried kicking at us, so I slammed her on the ground. Robert Jordan. Wildwood police have since released a statement: This matter is still under investigation, however, in an effort to insure transparency with the public we serve, it was imperative that this video be released as soon as feasibly possible.

"Officers have to use only the modicum of force necessary to effect a lawful arrest".

"All she had to do was give the name", the mayor said.

In the first body camera video released Wednesday, an officer approaches Weinman and a friend and confronts them about underage drinking. "She assaults them, she spits at them, she kicks them, but right away the police officer at that point did what he had to do", said Troiano. The two wrestle on the ground, as she repeatedly shouts "get the fuck off me" and "I didn't do anything".

The Class II officers who were hired for the summer season were reassigned to desk duty pending an internal investigation, according to Philly.com.

The video shows police have the woman by her hair. "If she prevails in this then she certainly could pursue a civil action for any physical/emotional/injuries". There would be no ticket that day, he decided, and shut the body camera off, the police would later say. Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto called the video "alarming" but said he doesn't want to "rush to any judgment".

"The number of people who think she got what she deserved is appalling", Dicht said. The second time, Troiano said, the woman moved her head in a direction of the officer's hand. "The police did their job".

Weinman has a summons to appear in court on June 15.
