Iran Demands Oil, Bank Guarantees From The EU By End-May

That seems to be the case today with Trump's policy on Iran - and it might justify his decision to link the Iranian nuclear file with all of the other files of concern to the U.S. with respect to the Islamic Republic, including its human rights abuses, its ballistic missile work, its support for terrorist organizations and the march of its Revolutionary Guard Corps across the Middle East.

Iran's supreme leader set out conditions on Wednesday for Iran to stay in the deal: unless Europe guarantees Iran's oil sales will not be hurt, Tehran would resume enrichment of nuclear material.

Washington has threatened not only to reimpose sanctions but to make them even tighter.

Nations that remain in the Iran nuclear deal meet on Friday for the first time since U.S. President Donald Trump left the pact, but diplomats see limited scope to salvage it after Washington vowed to be tougher than ever on Tehran.

Trump sees various "flaws" in the deal, including that many of its restrictions lapse over time and that it does not address Iran's ballistic missile program or its role in regional conflicts like the wars in Syria and Yemen.

The 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers lifted global sanctions on Tehran.

Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad responded by hailing Iran's assistance to his country, stressing that the pullout of the Iranian military advisers from the Arab country was not up for discussion.

"If the [accord] is destroyed, then Iran's nuclear program will not be understood by anyone", Putin said Friday.

He said talks would continue over the next few weeks "particularly at an expert level", after which Iran would decide whether or not to stay in the accord. Iran's oil and gas exports have climbed steadily since the JCPOA was implemented.

Russian delegate Mikhail Ulyanov struck an upbeat note, saying: "We have all chances to succeed, provided that we have the political will".

Tehran is pressuring Europe to come up with a package of economic measures to offset the USA pullout by May 31, saying it was "weeks" from deciding whether to quit the pact.

He added that the possibility of referring back to the matter back to the United Nations "was not discussed during this meeting".

"The IAEA director general was invited to today's session of the commission".

In a statement after the talks, Helga Schmid, the European Union representative who chaired the meeting, said parties to the deal discussed "practical solutions" to ensure, among others, the continued sale of Iran's oil and gas, protection of businesses investing in Iran, as well as effective banking transactions and transport links.

The unnamed senior Iranian official rejected any attempt to link the JCPOA to other such issues.

"We want them working on behalf of the Iranian people, ordinary Iranian citizens who want nothing more than to live their lives, to be able to take their hijab off, to be able to go to work and raise their families and worship in the way they want to worship". "We'll try to cling to the deal hoping that there is a possibility of a transaction, but we're under no illusions". The withdrawal of United States from the nuclear agreement with Iran and imposing further sanctions could jeopardize the arms control agreement to which Iran has dismantled pursuant to the report made by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
