Trump Form Lists Payment To Cohen, Lawyer Who Paid Stormy Daniel

US President Donald Trump today acknowledged that he paid his personal attorney Michael Cohen as much as United States dollars 250,000 as reimbursements for election-related expenses, apparently including a USD 130,000 payment given to adult film star Stormy Daniels who alleges she had an affair with the then presidential candidate.

The disclosure caps a series of contradictory statements from Mr Trump and his representatives on the scandal swirling around lawyer Michael Cohen - which has widened to ensnare major corporations and a Russian oligarch.

In one of his less-than-savvy moves, Cohen used this same shell company to pay off adult film star Stormy Daniels, who alleged she had an affair with Trump.

Swiss medicine company Novartis AG said it paid almost $1.2 million to Trump's lawyer, while other companies came forward saying they had hired Cohen for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Office of Government Ethics has also concluded that the payment to Cohen "meets the disclosure requirement for a reportable liability".

President Trump has insisted no campaign money was used to reimburse Mr Cohen.

"There is substantial evidence that President Trump had knowledge of the loan when he filed his 2017 [financial disclosure form] notwithstanding his failure to report it".

Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG said it had paid Cohen almost $1.2 million; US telecommunications company AT&T Inc said it made payments of $600,000; and South Korea's Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd said it hired him for $150,000.

The New York Times reported television agent Jay Sures talked with executives at the cable news outlets about a program where the pair would square off. The White House did not respond to requests for comment to clarify the reason for Mr Trump's payment to Mr Cohen. Although he did admit to the payment in a footnote filed this week, which he claims was unnecessary, but done anyway "in the interest of transparency", the original omission may be a criminal matter.

Giuliani revealed earlier this month Trump repaid Cohen for the $130,000 he spent as a part of a non-disclosure agreement in October 2016. Apol's letter was released with the Trump disclosures.

The two SARs in question reportedly show transactions totaling about $1 million in bank transfers over the span of about seven months, and some $2 million in activity during a three-month period ending in September 2017. "To say that I am terrified right now would be an understatement", the official said.
