Pompeo describes what it was like meeting Kim Jong Un

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday said he hoped that the forthcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would bring peace to the region.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shakes hands with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang, North Korea on May 9, 2018.

WASHINGTON-A former senior US diplomat from the Obama administration said that President Trump's recent decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal would not adversely affect USA negotiations with North Korea, contrary to the opinion of many of Trump's critics. "They seem to be in good health", Trump wrote in a post on Twitter. They will get private capital that comes in.

The U.S. President also further praised the North Korean leader last week, saying that he was "excellent" to three U.S. citizens who were released by the DPRK on May 10.

Trump sent Pompeo to Pyongyang to accompany the men home following USA calls for Kim to free them as a gesture of goodwill and sincerity before the U.S. North Korea has a reputation for being unstable and inconsistent on its commitments, and the United States too, with its recent move of unilaterally pulling out of the Iran deal, has damaged its reputation on the global front. "The American leadership under President Trump has its eyes wide open".

A second Cheong Wa Dae official said the call between Moon and Kim may still take place this week, before the South Korean leader visits Washington to discuss the potential outcome of the upcoming US-North Korea summit with his US counterpart.

"The implementation of the decision means getting rid of all the nuclear weapons, dismantling them, taking them to Oak Ridge, Tennessee", Bolton said Sunday in an interview with ABC's "This Week". "But we are also very much interested in operationalizing the commitment as quickly as possible", Bolton said.

The North has claimed that its nuclear arsenal is for defensive purposes and to counter any USA plans at regime change, but Kim said last month that his country was shifting to a "new strategic line" that focuses the nation's resources on rebuilding its economy.

According to him, the USA is ready to lift the sanctions in order to open the way for private American investment in energy, infrastructure and agricultural sector of North Korea. "We are just not briefing you about it", the official added.

"There is still a consensus between China and the United States that they will stand firm on sanctions until such time as North Korea achieves genuine, verifiable and concrete measures towards denuclearization", Wang said. I think we need to look at their chemical and biological weapons programs as well.

"The prospect for North Korea is for it to become a normal nation, to behave and interact with the rest of the world the way South Korea does", he said.

Russel also said that Kim Jong-Un is unlikely to put any trust in US promises in a negotiation in the first place, even before Trump's withdrawal from the Iran deal.
