Police parade 'NASA conmen' wearing space suits in India

Photos and a video of the father and son, dressed in silver space suits, being escorted by officials have gone viral.The men were arrested after the businessman complained to the police.

The pair allegedly convinced the victim to buy a copper plate for $213,156, claiming it had "special properties" to it, police said. The victim signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and paid Rs 87.2 lakh on different occasions for arranging special anti-radiation suits to be worn by scientists during testing, fees of the scientists and for chemicals required for testing.

They promised it would be sold to NASA and India's space agency for hundreds of millions of dollars, police said. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police nabbed Virender Mohan Brar (56) and son Nitin Mohan Brar (30) who defrauded a victim, Narendra, on the pretext of a product called Rice Puller (RP) that space agencies were apparently willing to purchase for Rs 37,500 crore after testing its genuineness.

A rice puller is a conman's device in which a fraud takes a copper plate or utensil and coat it with liquid magnet and then fill some boiled rice with small iron wires and fools the victim by pulling the rice grain towards the magnet-coated copper article. "They said tests were scheduled in Hapur, but could not be held as the place was "not conducive".

The cheats used to befool the victim by saying that the object is a rare piece of copper, which is struck by thunderbolt in the hills of Uttarakhand giving it power to pull rice and is being used by NASA/DRDO advanced space research.

Even though they did get caught, one must appreciate the creativity of these con men! He also found out that the so-called scientists were also a part of the plan and were working with the fraudsters for Rs 20,000.

The Delhi police crime branch on Tuesday arrested a father-son duo for duping a garment exporter of Rs 1.43 crores on the pretext of selling and testing a "rice puller", used by research institutions such as NASA and DRDO.

During probe, the alleged RP copper plate, anti-radiation suits from NASA and anti-radiation chemical stickers were recovered along laptop, printer, blank letter heads of Rehan Metals, US, one Audi auto from the accused.
