Shaquem Griffin becomes first one-handed player drafted in NFL

I don't know if I agree that Shaquem should have been drafted in the first round, but he certainly should have been taken ahead of Callaway - hands down!.

"When I saw that, I grabbed the phone and jumped over everybody else on the floor and went to the bathroom", said Shaquill, the second-year Seahawks cornerback. I haven't seen anything I couldn't do.

"I couldn't breathe", Griffin told ESPN as he described the moment the Seahawks called to say they wanted him.

He was hardly alone.

As if Shaquem Griffin wasn't already the greatest feel-good story of this year's NFL Draft, it got even better Saturday afternoon.

The Seattle Seahawks selected UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin with the 141st pick in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

It was for Seahawks fans. It was the Seahawks - the team that showed the most interest in Griffin from the start - who gave Shaquem the chance at his professional aspirations and with it a chance to be reunited with his brother.

"We looked at that very closely, to try to determine is there a factor that makes it obvious that maybe we shouldn't take him, " Carroll said. "We love Shaquill and knowing what could come of this".

"I tell you, it's awesome".

How could you blame him?

Amid scepticism, Shaquill, a minute older than his twin, made sure he always put in a good word for his brother.

By the end of Friday night, Shaquem was the lone invited player still waiting to hear his name called. Being a day three draft selection means you have to prove yourself so each practice that the Seahawks hold will be important for him to learn the new speed of the game, rather than the college level speed.

"We may have to knock some walls down", Shaquill joked on the conference call, "but we'll figure it out".

"I want to show the entire world, no matter [if you have] one hand, two hands, if you're a ball player, you just play ball", Griffin said before the 2018 National Football League draft, cited by BBC. Two more (Kam Chancellor, Cliff Avril) may not return from injuries.

But missed tackle stats, Schneider said, showed that Griffin "doesn't miss any more tackles than (other) linebackers in this draft".

"No", he said. "We knew it was a cool story, but no".

Since the, he's been the talk of the league, and the outpouring of support from the entire NFL and wider sporting community after he was drafted was incredible to see. "Magical stuff started happening", Shaquem said.
