Opening statements set in Bill Cosby's sex assault retrial

Nicolle Rochelle turned heads when she shockingly protested topless and got arrested outside of the courthouse during Bill Cosby's trial on April. 9.

"Women's lives matter", yelled Nicolle Rochelle, 39, with "Cosby rapist" and the names of Cosby accusers written on her naked torso.

A topless woman who was arrested outside the Norristown courthouse where Bill Cosby's trial is taking place is an actress who appeared in a few episodes of "The Cosby Show".

The disruption came ahead of opening statements, when jurors learned that Cosby paid almost $3.4 million to the woman he is charged with sexually assaulting.

Cosby's defense is expected to call Marguerite Jackson, a current Temple employee, to testify that Constand told her she could falsely accuse a wealthy man of sexual assault to get money.

"And we ask if she's willing to help the commonwealth", Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele shared with the jury, as he spent his time playing defense to upcoming arguments from the Cosby's team.

Following the protest, the Montgomery County D.A.'s Office announced that Rochelle had been charged with disorderly conduct, which is defined as, "the intent to cause a public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm or recklessly creating a risk thereof".

Prosecutors in Pennsylvania's Montgomery County revealed the payout for the first time in their opening statement of Cosby's second criminal trial, nearly a year after a different jury failed to reach a verdict, prompting a mistrial.

"We're very confident that you all will be able to do justice in this case", Steele told the jury.

The Femen movement started in Ukraine in 2009 and has spread to multiple countries, staging unauthorized topless protests against religious institutions, far-right politicians and other targets seen as oppressing women.

O'Neill has handed a win to the defense in allowing testimony from a former co-worker who alleges that Constand schemed against Cosby.

Cosby wasn't touched during the incident and remained unharmed.

A protester, Nicolle Rochelle, is detained after approaching Bill Cosby as he arrived for his sex assault retrial in Norristown, Pa.

The accuser in the case, Andrea Constand, 44, is one of more than 50 women who have accused him of sexual assaults, some dating back decades. In June 2017, a judge declared a mistrial after jurors were deadlocked following five days of deliberations. The judge, however, ultimately opted not to remove the juror.

Prosecutors have lined up a parade of five additional accusers to make the case that the man revered as "America's Dad" lived a double life as one of Hollywood's biggest predators.

"When this happened with Andrea Constand, there was no mistake that there was no consent", he told jurors. The district attorney at that time ended his investigation after four weeks, announcing the comedian wouldn't be charged because the evidence showed both parties "could be held in less than a flattering light".

The start of the trial was delayed by an issue with one juror, who is alleged to have remarked: "I just think he's guilty, so we can all be done and get out of here".
