Declan Donnelly prepares to host without Ant

The British presenter had to do without his counterpart Ant McPartlin tonight due to McPartlin's readmittance to rehab.

This was a big deal, as all telly lovers know - the first time he has presented a show without his co-star and best friend Ant McPartlin.

At one point he said following the news had been "unavoidable" in recent weeks but did not explicitly mention why Ant was missing.

Tonight saw the show still go on, albeit with a lonely Declan Donnelly, which broke the hearts of many Ant and Dec fans at home.

Ant was not completely absent from the programme.

It's also thought that Dec will make "a lower key entrance than usual" when he takes to the stage as the Geordie duo usually open the show to much fanfare, running through the studio audience as a live band plays. "That other bloke was good - you should do some more stuff with him", he joked after Ant made an appearance in Saturday Knight Takeaway.

Dozens of fans - including fellow broadcasters Piers Morgan, Susanna Reid and Dermot O'Leary - congratulated Dec on his successful performance on social media.

Hundreds of viewers agreed saying he had done Ant "proud".

Lisa also liked a tweet by Kate Thornton, which read: "A total masterclass in professionalism tonight from Dec - doing both of you proud @antanddec. Here's hoping that he will do as great a job at Florida next week". I'm glad you enjoyed the show.

Dec, 42, who recently confirmed he is going to be a father, will also present next week's final episode in Florida.

Ant is, of course, now back in rehab following his vehicle crash and subsequent drink-driving charge last month.
