Packers trade CB Randall to Browns

The Green Bay Packers acquired quarterback DeShone Kizer from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive back Damarious Randall. Entering the 2015 NFL Draft, he was the top-rated free safety prospect, but Green Bay chose to move him to cornerback where he's spent most of his career. He's the compensation to Green Bay for the trade that will send cornerback Damarious Randall to Cleveland.

The deal also includes the Packers and Browns flip-flopping their fourth- and -fifth-round picks, according to ESPN.

In truth, Kizer's days appeared numbered in Cleveland as the team was expected to target a veteran in free agency - before getting Taylor, that is - and the Browns will likely use the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft on a QB. Brett Hundley failed to impress during his nine starts last season, so Kizer could be an upgrade with the right development.

McCarthy publicly supported Hundley at the annual National Football League scouting combine last week, saying Hundley wasn't prepared to start and saying the coaches were also to blame for that.

But McCarthy added, "I believe in Brett Hundley. He has a big upside". "That's something that we have to learn from, and that stings". He finished the year as the Packers' leader in interceptions (four) and pass break-ups (13). Adding him to the roster doesn't tip their hand should they have been looking at a couple players in the draft, like possibly Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward or Alabama free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. "It's the offseason and I just want to stay out of it".

Randall had 10 interceptions in his first threes season in Green Bay.

NFL Network reported both sides are open to Sherman returning under a new contract if he can not find the right deal in free agency. He can meet with and sign a contract to play for any team in the league.
