Sam Nunberg apologizes to Sarah Sanders: 'I was having a rough day'

Nunberg also said that had Trump not won the Republican primary, "he was probably going to endorse Hillary Clinton".

Katy Tur and Ari Melber on MSNBC and Jake Tapper and Burnett on CNN sounded sympathetic to Nunberg, asking about his emotional state and warning him of the consequences of refusing to cooperate with Mueller.

Speaking first to the Washington Post and then on MSNBC, Nunberg vowed to defy Mueller, who is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and alleged collusion between Trump aides and Moscow.

Sam Nunberg angry over a subpoena from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators initially said he was willing to go to jail rather than turn over emails

Nunberg did not immediately respond to calls or text messages from BuzzFeed News. Nunberg was a communications adviser for the campaign and worked closely with longtime Trump associate and political trickster Roger Stone. The drama continued into the summer of 2016, when Trump sued his former aide for $10 million, alleging Nunberg broke his nondisclosure agreement.

Told that Nunberg said Wiley was the reason he had changed his mind, the lawyer laughed and said she was happy that he seemed to be following better legal advice now. She finally asked whether Nunberg believes Mueller's investigators have something on the president. "I think that Carter Page is a weird dude", he said.

"I was trending No. 1 on Twitter from a couch in my office". This one comes via Post columnist Ruth Marcus, who says Nunberg has now "successfully destroyed his credibility and therefore his utility as a trial witness for Mueller". "Let me just give them what they want because there's nothing there anyway". Nunberg was subpoenaed by the special counsel and was instructed to turnover all email correspondences with several White House officials, including Steve Bannon and Roger Stone to Mueller's team.

McDougal said in an interview Monday that she would not do anything differently - though Nunberg should know that being incarcerated is no joke.

But everything culminated in a painfully awkward interview when CNN's Erin Burnett asked him if he had been drinking. Amid other attacks on White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Nunberg accused her of spreading lies that he is "a drunk and a drug addict", according to Yahoo!

"Mr. Mueller should understand I am not going in on Friday" to the grand jury, he added.

"Nobody made him go on television". He delighted in the social media attention that his statements were receiving, at one point yelling, "Number one on Twitter", according to Yahoo!

In a remarkable act of rebellion, Nunberg seized the national media spotlight for much of Monday afternoon to denounce Mueller's investigation as a "witch hunt" and to detail what he said he had learned about the probe from his private interview last month with Mueller's team. The White House has also been dismissive of Nunberg whenever he has occasionally offered comments it didn't like. "I didn't even know saying "screw you" to a subpoena was an option", Jordan Klepper said on The Opposition.

In one instance, Trump told former White House staff secretary Rob Porter that counsel Donald McGahn should deny a Times article in January saying the president had asked McGhan to fire Mueller past year.
