Apple is testing prototypes of the larger model with a display resolution of 2688 x 1242.

The larger handset will feature a 6.5-inch, 1242x2688 screen - making it Apple's biggest ever iPhone. While the body of the phone will be about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, the screen will be about an inch larger thanks to the edge-to-edge design. However, the company is planning to release an update to current iPhone X model that will enable payments.

Apple will reportedly offer three versions of its iPhone when it announces its new lineup later this year, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Apple is also preparing an update to the regular-sized iPhone X, the sources said.

If you've been waiting for a dual-SIM card-capable iPhone, Apple might finally provide it with the 6.5-inch model.

The third new iPhone is expected to be a new lower-priced model, but will feature an edge-to-edge LCD screen and Face ID. Though it's nowhere cheap, yet it is $200-$300 below the iPhone X. Kuo notes that the screen size would be 6.1 inches.

The larger iPhone may also have dual-SIM functionality for the first time in Apple's history, to appeal to travelers in some markets.

Analysts estimate that the largest jump in sales will be reported for Asia since most Asians own a single device and they are very keen on big smartphones.

Expect to hear the official announcement of the new iPhones at an Apple launch event this summer.

Apple wants to turn its fortunes around following a year of disappointing iPhone X sales and the battery throttling debacle. This may be scrapped, however, if they proceed with their E-SIM tech that lets devices connect to cellular networks without inserting the traditional SIM card.

Apple has also embraced the used iPhone market as a way to expand its share of smartphone users. Apple only sells the premium flagship in Silver and Space Gray, while the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both have Gold in addition to the other two colors. This is said to support new augmented reality features, enhanced Siri integration, health and fitness monitoring, and the use of Animojis in FaceTime. Its housing will also likely be cheaper, using aluminum and glass rather than stainless steel.
