Penguins acquire C Brassard from Senators

They likely won't be done before Monday's trade deadline, either.

Brassard's trade from Ottawa to Pittsburgh was officially executed Friday evening.

The Senators shipped Brassard, forward Vincent Dunn and a third-round selection in the 2018 draft to the Penguins, who sent goaltending prospect Filip Gustavsson, defenseman Ian Cole, a 2018 first-rounder and a 2019 third-rounder to Ottawa.

The deal comes three days before the NHL's trade deadline. They may have to get another team involved to make that happen because the Senators would have minimal interest in taking that kind of contract back at this juncture.

Brassard was the Sens' fourth-highest scorer this season, tallying the second-highest goal total this season, 18, in addition to 20 assists. The 6-2, 184-pound native of Skelleftea, Sweden, now plays for Lulea in the Swedish Hockey League, where he has posted an 8-9-0 record with a 2.16 goals-against-average and.917 save percentage in 18 games.
