The offending family was taken from the ship by police on Friday and brought to shore in Eden, New South Wales.

Carnival Cruise Line says police were requested to the Carnival Legend and "remove a family group of passengers".

The 10-day South Pacific cruise was marred by reports of clashes between two different groups of passengers, News.com.au reported. A further 14 passengers, including women and children, also left the ship.

"My husband said to take it away, because there's kids here, and five of them surrounded my husband".

It is unclear whether any arrests have been made.

Paddy wagons waited at Eden wharf while a bus had been booked to take people to Canberra Airport for the flight to Melbourne, where the ship was due to arrive on Saturday.

"This is all over a thong, not a foot, a thong being stepped on and being instantly apologized for", he said. "What happened there and then was apologised for", he said.

"The first hit was thrown by security towards, not just my daughter and my sister-in-law, but my wife as well", he said.

"Last night they attacked one of the security guards".

"We're basically standing here, thanking the lord above that we survived it", he said.

Shocking video footage has emerged online of a melee in one of the vessel's restaurants that shows black-clad security men repeatedly kicking combatants in the brawl.

People can be heard crying and screaming in the background.

David Barkho told the station that his son was on the ship and desperately called him at 1 a.m. asking for help.

Barkho's son told him that he could see "a lot of people bleeding, a lot of people down on the ground".

"He has a head injury", he said.

One passenger, called Michael, says he was kicked while lying on the ground and suffering bruisins to his face, back and legs.

"We can't wait to get off".

"There were limited and isolated events with the family in question", she said.

One horrified holidaymaker told Nine News they are genuinely frightened of the offending guests and are hesitant to leave the safety of their room. Police confirmed that security detained the men involved.

Carnival Cruise Lines told Daily Mail Australia: "The vast majority of the guests on board Carnival Legend are enjoying their 10-day cruise holiday to the South Pacific".

"The ship's highly trained security staff have engaged with a small group of disruptive guests and ensured that they are fully aware of and are compliant with our zero tolerance policy".
