The state of NY filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, his brother and their eponymous production company Sunday for "egregious violations" of civil rights, human rights and business laws.

"Any sale of The Weinstein Company must ensure that victims will be compensated, employees will be protected going forward and that neither perpetrators nor enablers will be unjustly enriched".

Schneiderman said Sunday that a four-month investigation into sexual harassment found "vicious and exploitative mistreatment of company employees".

The lawsuit claims that the company's human resources department failed to properly address complaints, and that Bob Weinstein failed to maintain a safe workplace while serving as co-owner and co-CEO. The company later fired Weinstein. Employee accounts of sexual harassment, intimidation and other misconduct are part of the suit.

The suit included an array of new allegations regarding Weinstein's depraved behavior. The suit seeks compensation for employees and to prevent executives who may have enabled the alleged conduct from taking power at the company in the future.

Telephone and email messages seeking comment from Weinstein and the company were not immediately returned.
