Texas officer fatally shot during domestic disturbance call

A police officer was shot and killed on Wednesday after responding to a disturbance reported at an apartment complex near Dallas, police said.

Richardson police confirmed that an officer and one civilian had been shot with a Twitter post.

The Richardson, Texas, officer was struck while investigating a disturbance at the Breckinridge Point Apartments complex about 15 miles north of Dallas, according to police.

Police spokesman Kevin Perlich told reporters, "We believe we have him pinned down to a particular location", Perlich said.

The Richardson officer was the second law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty this week. "However, he is still randomly firing throughout the evening".

The officer who died was shot in the neck, the station adds.

The suspect has not been taken into custody.

Police have one person in custody, after an hours-long SWAT situation. Police are keeping residents inside their units for their safety.
