Special Report on Natalie Wood Death Leads Throws Suspicion Back in Spotlight

"He's a person of interest because he was the last person with her, before she went in the water", Corina said.

"We have reached out to him like two or three times - through him and through his attorney - and he has refused to talk to us", Lt. John Corina of the L.A. Sheriff's Department said.

"We would love to talk to Robert Wagner", Corina explained, adding that the actor's story doesn't "add up to what we've found". On Thursday, detectives once again named her then-husband actor Robert Wagner a "person of interest". "Nobody heard anything", Corina said.

Lt Corina said: "I think, before, we were all believing this story that she must have gotten in a dinghy and tried to go into town in her nightgown, in her socks, by herself when it is raining out and the seas are really rough - you can't even see at midnight - which made absolutely no sense if you really think about it".

Davern said in 2011 that on the night of Woods' death "we didn't take any steps to see if we could locate her".

The death of Natalie Wood remains one of Hollywood's most enduring mysteries.

Over the weekend, a 48 Hours Special revealed new information about the death of Natalie Wood, who drowned while sailing off the coast of Catalina Island along with her husband Robert Wagner and friend Christopher Walken. But the case was reopened in 2011 after the captain said he heard the couple arguing the night of her disappearance. Corina said the sheriff's department will continue to examine the case for as long as there are any leads to pursue.

Before becoming the subject of a Hollywood mystery, Natalie Wood was considered one of the most lovely and talented women in the world.

However, Wood said in previous statements that she was terrified of the water.

Time has been the largest obstacle in the probe and the original investigator and numerous witnesses have died, Corina said.

She was married to Wagner between 1957 and 1962 and from 1972 until her death.

Corina added, "There's actually more than one witness who came forward who heard them on the back of the boat arguing". "People wanted to get involved and tell us what they knew", Corina said.

The coroner's office amended Wood's death certificate to include "drowning and other undetermined factors".

Investigators note the autopsy report indicates there were a number of bruises that appeared to be fresh on Wood's body.

"Do we have enough to make an arrest at this moment?" "Mr. Wagner has been interviewed on multiple occasions by the Los Angeles sheriff's department and answered every single question asked of him by detectives during those interviews".

Two years later, Wood divorced Gregson and remarried Wagner.

New witnesses interviewed since the case was reopened gave statements that "portray a new sequence of events on the boat that night", said Nishida, the sheriff's spokeswoman.

In his 2009 book, Pieces of My Heart, Wagner wrote that on that outing in November 1981, he became jealous and argued with both Wood and Walken.

He claimed that Wagner's story has changed over the years, and said that Wagner did not immediately attempt to look for her once he determined that she was not on the boat.
