At least 20 people killed in Syrian air strikes

A Russian warplane was shot down in Syria on Saturday and its pilot killed on the ground after he ejected from the plane, Russia's defence ministry and Syrian rebels said.

In Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said on Sunday that if the People's Protection Units terror group does not leave Syria's Manbij, Turkey will move there and towards east of Euphrates River. The pilot was killed soon after in a ground fight after ejecting from his plane, although the details of his death are disputed.

Russian Federation has been conducting military operations in support of close ally Syria dictator Bashar al-Assad, since September 2015. "We are averaging nearly one attack every 24 hours", said Dr Ghanem Tayara, chairman of UOSSM International and Bristol GP.

"The United States has never provided MANPAD missiles to any group in Syria, and we are deeply concerned that such weapons are being used", said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

Russia's retaliation of the Syrian attack used precision-guided weapons in a strike that killed more than 30 militants where the plane was downed in the northwest province of Idlib, according to reports.

Saraqeb has come under heavy aerial bombardment as government forces push toward a strategic highway.

Tahrir al-Sham has claimed responsility for the downing, releasing a post on social media quoting their commander in charge, saying that one of their militants had hit a Russian SU-25 during an "air raid" over the city of Saraqeb in the northwestern province of Idlib. In retaliation, Russian Federation fired missiles that killed 30 Syrian rebels.

Located in northern Syria near the Turkish border, Idlib was declared a de-escalation zone according to a cease-fire agreement last May reached in Kazakhstan's capital Astana.

Idlib province is also home to more than a million displaced people from around Syria, and renewed fighting has pushed close to a quarter of a million residents to flee again since mid-December, cramming into already-packed houses and tented settlements across the region.

Reports say Russian Federation fired numerous missiles from both the Mediterranean Sea and its Khmeimim air base in Syria.

Syrians who oppose Assad view Russian Federation as an invading force and blame it for the deaths of thousands of civilians since Moscow joined the war on the Syrian government's side in 2015.
