Pakistan's Imran Khan talks USA relations as elections loom

A security aid of $2billion to Pakistan was suspended by Trump's administration last week over these accusations.

Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Pakistan has assisted the USA in its fight in the war on terrorism, providing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with supply routes into landlocked Afghanistan after the USA invasion, Bloomberg reports.

In a press briefing, Khan said he has been a staunch opponent of Pakistan's participation in the war on terror since it began in 2001 following the 9/11 attacks on the US. Bajwa assured Votel that Pakistan would continue to follow through with its counter-terrorism plans without USA financial support, according to AP.

He also said the United States is not planning any action inside Pakistan but is seeking cooperation to recover terrorists who, according to the USA view, are using Pakistan's soil against Kabul.

The phone call comes on the heels of a tweet sent out by President Trump earlier this month, criticizing his country's long-standing policy of sending security aid to Pakistan.

The US aid suspension was announced days after Trump tweeted on January 1 that the United States had foolishly given Pakistan $33 billion in aid over 15 years and was rewarded with "nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools".

"We value mutual understanding of interests and concerns that we need to consider and might lead to a positive path forward", US Central Command spokesman Air Force Col. John Thomas said.

General Bajwa categorically said that Pakistan would not seek resumption of aid but expet honorable recognition of the contributions, sacrifices and unwavering resolve in the fight against terrorism for peace and stability in the region.

Votel also told Bajwa the "US is not contemplating any unilateral action inside Pakistan", it continued.

USA military leaders are continuing to maintain close with their counterparts in despite the White House's latest round of harsh economic sanctions against the South Asian nation.

However, the USA military is also concerned that the Pakistani army, which effectively runs foreign policy, might close the air and land corridors on which US-led troops and Afghan forces in landlocked Afghanistan depend for supplies.

A top American general has told Pakistan's army chief the USA military does not intend to conduct any unilateral strikes inside the country and both sides emphasized the need for continued cooperation to fight terrorism, an official announcement said Friday.
