Seth Meyers Tackles Sexual Harrasment Head-On in Golden Globes Monologue

In the wake of the #MeToo and #TimesUp initiative, Late Night's Seth Meyers' opening monologue for the 75th Golden Globe Awards was bound to be particularly tricky.

"Harvey Weinstein isn't here tonight because, well, I heard rumors that he's insane and hard to work with", Seth, who is hosting the show, told the crowd during his opening monologue. And Oprah, while I have you, in 2011 I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents' Dinner - jokes about how he was unqualified to be president - and some have said that night convinced him to run. Meyers began. In terms of being the first out hosting an awards show in this climate-and a straight white male at that-Meyers compared himself to the first dog shot into outer space.

Seth Meyers came out guns blazing to open the 2018 Golden Globes.

With how much of 2017 was centered on allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault from people in the entertainment industry, there was no doubt that this year's Golden Globes would be addressing those issues.

Meyers followed up right away with a jab at Spacey, saying.

Later, Meyers confronted "the elephant not in the room", aka accused sexual predator and former producer Harvey Weinstein. But don't worry, he'll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the "In Memoriam". Meyers even urged her to run for president, which was met with the biggest round of applause of the night so far.

Proving there is no love lost between the org and Weinstein, one male HFPA member told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview this week, "I feel sad now because I didn't punch him in his freaking face". "Remember when he was the one causing trouble with North Korea?" Meyer's joked, "I hope he can do a Southern accent because Kevin Spacey sure couldn't". "When I first heard about a film where a woman falls in love with a ugly monster, I thought it was a Woody Allen movie", Meyers said, referring to Guillermo del Toro's best picture nominee The Shape of Water. Mr Spacey was replace with Christopher Plummer, and Seth Meyers said another season of House Of Cards with Mr Plummer sounds great!

Some of the highlights included, as can be expected from the hold-nothing-back late-night host, major digs at numerous accused men in Hollywood.

Then Meyers threw this setup to comedian Billy Eichner: "Call Me by Your Name is nominated for Best Motion Picture".
