Natalie Portman Calls Out 'All Male' Award Nominees

And, these celebs agree!

Ahead of last night's Golden Globes, she revealed: 'We are at $14.5million (£10.7million) after two weeks of raising money.

While presenting the nominees and victor alongside director Ron Howard, Portman notes, quite pointedly, that the nominees were all male.

After Ron said, "We are honoured to be here to present the award for best director.", Natalie made her point in a short but effective way, by adding, "and here are the all-male nominees". Her quick, but important remark was subject to a collective roar from the audience, which was their seal of approval.

Ferrera, who won a Golden Globe for her role in Ugly Betty in 2007, dazzled on the red carpet in a floor-length sparkly black gown and long black blazer.

Winner Guillermo del Toro did not specifically acknowledge Portman's comment, but as the music swelled to play him offstage, he asked for it to stop - and then took time to praise "a few fantastic women" who had worked on the film.

While Gerwig's inclusion among 2018 nominees Guillermo del Toro, Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, Martin McDonagh, and Christopher Nolan would have been welcome (and deserved), this year's Golden Globe Awards did make strides for female-centric films in general. Only one woman has ever won the award for best director in the Golden Globes' 75-year history.

Some of Portman's fellow actresses also chimed in with Mindy Kaling tweeting: 'Yas Natalie Get Em Girl'.

With regards to the acceptance speeches, Laura Dern, Elisabeth Moss, Frances McDormand and Nicole Kidman were just some of the actresses that spoke out and showed solidarity with that particular cause, but it's arguable that Natalie Portman's speech upstaged them all.
