Bucks' Antetokounmpo leads all players in 2018 NBA All-Star voting

Antetokounmpo is ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James by almost 7,500 votes and leads third-place Kyrie Irving by more than 50,000 votes in the first vote tabulation, released by the National Basketball Association on Thursday. Like Simmons, Griffin also missed his first NBA season due to injury, which left in rookie eligible for his second year in the Association.

In the new format of the All-Star Game, the two players who get the most votes in both conferences will be the captains for each team where they will pick their squad from the rest of the nominated players for the contest.

The next fan voting update will be shared on Friday, Jan. 12 (AEDT), with fan voting ending on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

LeBron has been an efficient scorer this season shooting at least 50 percent from the field in 31 out of 38 games played.

Simmons is now sitting in the fourth spot behind Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Victor Oladipo in the East guards category. The five players (two guards and three frontcourt players) with the best score in each conference will be named NBA All-Star Game starters. Houston Rockets guard James Harden (602,040) is third, followed by reigning MVP Russell Westbrook (438,469). Voting will conclude on Monday, Jan. 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The 67th NBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

While there are an additional two weeks before the game's starters are officially announced (the following week will be when reserves are announced), it's just yet another reminder of how much Antetokounmpo's star keeps on ascending to new heights. All of this is on TNT. Fans can select up to two guards and three frontcourt players from each conference when choosing starters. Retweets count as votes.

This shows the growing popularity of the "Greek Freak" and how he is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting players to watch on the court.

The voting can be done on Twitter with the hashtag #NBAVote. Fans may submit votes for 10 unique players per day through January 15. To submit a vote, the user can open the skill with, "Alexa, open NBA All-Star", and then request to vote for his or her player of choice. Users can submit votes for 10 unique players per Amazon account each day from December 25 - Jan 15. To vote via Tencent NBA Community, voters must visit China.NBA.com/vote, and select up to 10 players.
