Pence neighbors in Aspen hang 'Make America Gay Again' banner

This isn't the first time that Pence has been greeted with LGBT pride messages.

Earlier this year, actress Mila Kunis said on "Conan" that she was one of those supporters and set up a monthly donation to Planned Parenthood in Pence's name as a "peaceful protest".

Pence, who has often described himself as 'a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order, ' has a history of taking positions that place him at odds with the LGBTQ community. As governor of IN in 2015, Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a bill that would have given people the right to discriminate against LGBT people for religious reasons.

Rumors swirled around that Pence was an advocate of conversion therapy but this was denied by his spokesman.

In Congress, where he was a member from 2001 to 2013 before becoming IN governor, Pence described traditional marriage as the institution "that forms the backbone of our society". Citing a Harvard researcher, Pence said in his speech, "societal collapse was always brought about following an advent of the deterioration of marriage and family".

As governor of Indiana, Pence famously supported the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which many feared would have allowed discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Pence opposed 2009 legislation that would expand federal hate-crime statutes to include protections based on gender, disability and sexual orientation.

A Wall Street Journal story published Friday claimed Pence's Great America Committee is already handing out campaign cash to GOP candidates who support President Donald Trump.

In Aspen, the banner didn't seem to cause tension.

Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo said when a man who lives in the home hung the banner, the Secret Service didn't stop him. The state went to Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
