With more than 98 percent of votes counted late Thursday, Weah had received 61.5 percent of ballots while Boakai received 38.5 percent.

Ekweremadu urged the former World Footballer of the Year "to reciprocate the huge goodwill and confidence reposed in him by the good people of Liberia and the worldwide community by running an all-inclusive government".

Acknowledging the fragility of the country's economy, Weah called on the country's development partners to assist the country with medium-term aids to support ongoing projects that are critical to his government's long-term goals.
