4 soldiers killed in firing at LoC

In a brutal strike by the Pakistan Army on an area-domination patrol of the Indian Army, a Major and three soldiers attained martyrdom along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keeri sector of Rajouri on Saturday afternoon. Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh were grievously injured during the ceasefire violation and succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased personnel are identified as-Major Prafulla, Sepoy Pargarh and Sepoy Gurmeet Singh of 2 Sikh battalion.

Army's Udhampur based defence Spokesman Col NN Joshi said that Pakistan Rangers in "violation of ceasefire" opened fire upon the army posts near Keri in Nowshera sector along the LoC.

A spokesperson for the Pakistani army did not immediately react to this accusation.

A statement issued by the Indian Army said Indian forces retaliated heavily to the cross-border firing.

He said two other injured soldiers are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Major Ambadas, 32, belonged to Bhandara, Maharashtra and is survived by wife Ms Avoli Moharkar. "The Indian Army has retaliated strongly and effectively on the Pakistan Army posts".

"Major Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail and Sepoy Pargat were fearless and honest soldiers."The nation will always remain indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty", an Army statement said".

Tensions between Pakistan and India have been running high in the Himalayan territory for a long time.

In recent years, Kashmiris have openly supported anti-India rebels and sought to protect them by engaging troops in street clashes during military operations against the rebels. They have fought two of their three wars over the region since they gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947.

According to official figures over 880 violations of 2003 ceasefire accord have taken place along the LoC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017, killing 34 people.

The Chief Minister has conveyed her heartfelt sympathies to their families.
