Body cam shows Florida officer being dragged by speeding vehicle

Officer Jon Cusack was investigating a drug-related incident yesterday, and when he reached inside the auto, the driver, Thomas Cabrera hit the gas.

Pembroke Pines police officers were called to a possible overdose Tuesday inside a parked vehicle, and they spotted a baggie with an unknown substance, reported WTVJ-TV.

Other officers pursued the driver in a high-speed chase that reached over 100 miles per hour before they were able to apprehend him.

Cusack is a 19-year-veteran of the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

A Florida police officer was left injured after being forced to cling onto a moving vehicle for half a mile, following a routine traffic stop that went awry.

The auto then takes off and Cusack holds onto the car's door frame and is dragged alongside it. A clear bag with an unknown substance were also spotted inside the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle got onto northbound Interstate 75 before continuing east on I-595. Officers approached the auto with guns drawn and took Cabrera and the female passenger into custody.

He was eventually caught and is now charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Shortly after Cusack approaches the vehicle, Cabrera wakes up and appears confused. Our injured officer was immediately attended to by a backup officer and Fire-Rescue, and he was trauma alerted to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Police said Cabrera told officers he had been using both cocaine and heroin.
