Shooter down, at least 2 people shot at New Mexico high school

Students hid in their classrooms, some behind locked doors, as a suspect opened fire Thursday inside a New Mexico high school, killing two classmates before ending up dead.

As the noise got louder and closer, school officials issued a warning over the loud speaker.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Department responded to the shooting at Aztec High School and said deputies are "clearing the building and actively searching".

New Mexico State Police said the two people killed were students at the high school in Aztec, NM. Authorities say it could be a few hours before the lockdowns are lifted. He says the shooter also was dead but didn't say if the suspect was among the three.

Numbers of the injured have not been confirmed, but Bloomfield Police Departmented said there had been a "shooting".

The shooting took place at Aztec High School in Aztec, about 180 miles northwest of Albuquerque.

Aztec High School is a public high school in Aztec, New Mexico.

The sheriff's office urged people to avoid the area and confirmed the school was evacauted.
