Democrat plans to force impeachment vote against Trump this week

If Pelosi and the House minority leadership want to keep impeachment hopes alive, they need to rein him in.

Rep. Al Green (D-Tex.) brought articles of impeachment, arguing that Trump has "brought disrepute, contempt, ridicule and disgrace on the presidency" and "sown discord among the people of the United States".

House Democratic leaders aren't in favor of pushing impeachment at this point as they seek to win back the majority next year. Only 58 Democrats supported the proposal while the others believed that it was a distraction in a Republican-controlled Congress. Green, Texas Democrat, after Democratic leaders said Mr. Trump's actions may be upsetting to the party, but that talk of impeachment was premature.

The impeachment resolution Green circulated Tuesday does not include any allegations of obstruction of justice or other alleged crimes connected to his 2016 presidential campaign or the pending investigations into connections to Russian Federation.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer tell Democrats: "Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment".

The articles claim Trump brought shame and dishonor to the office of the president by being associated "with causes rooted in white supremacy, bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism, white nationalism, or neo-Nazism".

Green's new eight-page resolution accuses the Republican president of "high misdemeanors", citing "harm to American society to the manifest injury of the people of the United States".

House Republicans, joined by many Democrats, swiftly crushed a Democratic bid on Wednesday to force a vote on impeaching President Donald Trump.

They say legitimate questions have been raised about Trump's fitness to lead the nation, but say congressional investigations and a special counsel investigation should be allowed to continue. "For this reason, I will bring articles of impeachment to a vote in the House of Representatives".

The resolution offered by Green states that Trump has sown discord among the people of the US based on national origin and race.

The congressman also specifically cited Trump's comments after a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August.
