Instagram finally lets you save Stories so people can enjoy them forever

Instagram updated its Stories feature on Tuesday.

Two new features have been added to the app allowing users to either archive their Stories for private viewing, or create a Highlight that can be viewed on a user's profile for as long as they desire. Insta now has Highlights, which will offer users a chance to package old stories, give them a name where they will appear on your public profile above your other posts. There, you'll be able to easily switch between your posts archive and stories archive.

Stories Archive automatically saves your Stories for trips down memory lane. Users can now take Stories they've archived and add them to a highlights section at the top of their profile page.

The ability to add Stories to Highlights is likely to appeal to younger Instagram users, many of whom pay lots of attention to their digital personas and go to great lengths to develop their personal brands.

Instagram is ramping up its battle with Snapchat.

You can access the stories in your archive by tapping the Archive icon on your profile.

Recall that Snapchat introduced a similar feature in 2016-and so it's another one copied from the company by Instagram. The most recent stories will be at the bottom of the new grid layout, and the first Story from each day will show a date indicator to help users navigate.

To watch your stories, simply tap the on anyone of your choice and that's all. Simply tap the Archive button in your profile and then you'll be able to look at both your Posts Archive and your Stories Archive (which are kept separate). Though we did have the option to pick and choose which stories to download (and still do), this will make it easier and not something that you have to moderate yourself.

To get started, tap the New circle on the far left of the profile page. You can add up to 100 photos or videos to a single highlight and there's no limit to how many highlights you can post. There's no limit to how many you can add, but if you get exhausted of a particular highlight you can delete it or edit it. "To edit or remove a highlight, just tap and hold that highlight on your profile". Users will receive a notification when Stories Archives kicks in, letting them opt out of the feature.
