New Infiniti QX50 - official image and details revealed

Infinity has announced the 2019 QX50 crossover and it's very cool.

In terms of interior packaging for leg-, shoulder- and luggage-space the vehicle is on a par with or betters the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. And Infiniti is confirming that it will be the first production vehicle in the world to use an engine with a variable compression ratio. Like other Infiniti crossovers, the 2019 QX50 should feature the same swoopy design language, which should help it stand out on the streets where crossovers are a dime a dozen.

The large SUV, which is also built on an all-new platform, has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine called VC-Turbo that can adjust its compression ratio from 8:1 (for performance) to 14:1 (for fuel economy).

First pictures of the Japanese premium brand's new compact SUV have been released ahead of its public unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Outputs are listed as 200kW and 380Mm, while combined fuel use is said to be 35 per cent less than the current model's 3.7-litre V6 petrol in fornt-wheel-drive guide, while the all-wheel-drive is 30 per cent more efficient. Infiniti says that this engine can deliver the torque and efficiency of a four-cylinder diesel engine, but the engine runs on gasoline.

The new QX50 will come with Nissan's ProPILOT driver assistance technology, as seen on the latest Nissan Leaf. It consists of functions that help the driver accelerate, brake and steer the auto in single-lane highway driving conditions, providing autonomous-like functionality, activating at the push of a button.

"The QX50 is the most important vehicle we have ever launched, and it embodies everything the brand stands for: handsome design, advanced technology and empowering performance", said Christian Meunier, Infiniti Global Division Vice President. Performance is going to be just as brisk - 60 miles per hour is over in 6.3 seconds with all-wheel drive, and maximum speed reaches 143 mph (230 kph).
