Rose leaves Cavs to reportedly weigh future

He's also playing a career worst 26 minutes per contest this season, though that probably has more to do with the fact that he's playing on perhaps the most talented team he's every been a part of. That might be a bad position for the team to be in as they continue trying to gel as a group.

Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose is leaving the team temporarily to ponder his future in the National Basketball Association, according to a report on ESPN. What is immediately known, though, is that Rose is not expected to play in the next game for the Cavs.

The news comes as a surprise after Rose told SB Nation he was happy in late October, but this was before he had suffered an injury.

Rose has recently been dealing with an ankle injury. While the team has plenty of questions, the most recent dilemma involves the nebulous future of point guard Derrick Rose.

Rose has missed 11 of the Cavs' 18 games this season, including the past seven straight because of a sprained left ankle. He's averaging 14.3 points per game in his first season with Cleveland. It was odd to see a former MVP averaging less than two assists per game while playing nearly 27 minutes. Some might say it was only nine years, as he did sit out the 2012-13 campaign. That's just half-a-game from the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavaliers won six straight games despite not having Rose heading into their home game against Charlotte on November 24.
