Detroit Red Wings Luke Witkowksi Suspended for 10 Games

The chaos began with about five minutes left in the game when Luke Witkowski and Micheal Ferland squared off at center ice.

Witkowski was automatically suspended under rule 70.6 for actions during a game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

"It's unfortunate", said Witkowski, who is eligible to return December 11 against Florida. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the Red Wings took on the Calgary Flames.

Considering Witkowski was slapped with a 10-game suspension by the NHL Thursday afternoon - he was docked 10 games pay also - for his part in the brawl against Calgary the night before, hunting proved beneficial.

Tkachuk hit Red Wings forward Luke Witkowski on the leg with his stick in the third period after Witkowski was skating off the ice following being ejected for a game misconduct. But following the game, officials assessed him with two additional 10-minute misconducts, bringing him to his 37 total minutes. See the full incident below.

"I thought at the end a year ago - you know, we were out of it for the first time in a long time - and to some degree we let it happen, and to some degree we let ourselves get pushed around".

I know I'm a terrible person for even kind of condoning this brand of barbarism, but damn, do not mess with Luke Witkowski.

"Nobody wants to sit out 10 games", Witkowski said bluntly.

"Anytime I get up there (on the top lines) I try to build as much chemistry with whoever I'm out there with", he continued, "and play off them as much as I can".
