Oklahoma woman who married mother after two 'hit it off' pleads guilty

Stephens County court records show that the mother-daughter marriage was annulled October 12, six weeks after Misty Spann filed for an annulment "by reason of illegality and fraud". Patricia, 44, is Misty's mother.

In March 2016 they chose to register the marriage.

On Tuesday, Misty Spann, 26, pleaded guilty to incest. Following this, three of the siblings were raised by her paternal grandmother.

She reportedly told the investigator she and Misty "hit it off" when they reconnected in 2014.

Patricia Spann and Misty Spann were arrested.

Patricia told authorities that she allegedly "looked into" wedding her daughter and determined, erroneously, that marrying Misty would not violate the law because her name was not on an amended birth certificate created when she lost custody of her children.

Patricia Spann insisted to investigators she didn't have contact with her kids until a few years ago. She is identified as Patricia Ann Clayton on their marriage license application.

She wanted to marry a girl like the one who married dear old dad. But police found that Misty Spann is not the only biological child Patricia Spann has married.

She also was married to her biological son in 2008 in Comanche County, according to Tulsa World. Court records show that he filed for an annulment in March 2010.

Seiss said that the deal with Spann is something that the District Attorney's office strives for and Spann's lack of criminal history was the reason behind the deferred sentence.

He filed for an annulment 15 months later, citing "incest" as the reason, authorities said.

Misty said at the time that her mother told her she had received legal advice indicating that their marriage was legal.

Punishment misty was scheduled with a delay of execution, the case Patricia will be considered in January 2018.

In Oklahoma, incest is a felony, and, if convicted, is punishable up to 10 years in prison.

A woman from Oklahoma has, this week, been given probation of 10 years after she admitted that she had a sexual relationship with her mother which even led to marriage.

Spann married her mother, Patricia Ann Spann, last year. "She is to be supervised through the Department of Corrections for a period of not less than two years".

The charge against Patricia Spann remains pending.
