Messi tells Barcelona to sign De Bruyne or Eriksen over Coutinho

Barcelona attempted to sign Coutinho multiple times at the beginning of this season, resulting in the exciting midfielder missing six of Liverpool's opening games of the Premier League.

With Barcelona having three bids for Coutinho rejected by Liverpool over the summer, the La Liga giants are expected to renew their efforts to sign him once the transfer window opens again in January.

Coutinho has played well, though, grabbing four goals and three assists in nine appearances and showcasing more consistency than he has perhaps done in the past.

Nevertheless, a move to Barcelona in January from Liverpool continues to be mooted by the Catalan press. Barcelona tabled several mammoth offers but no prevail.

NEYMAR is reportedly trying his hardest to convince fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho to snub Barcelona and join him at Paris Saint-Germain. Though they remain in the market for the player with another bid possible.

Coutinho handed in a transfer request to force a deal.

That eye-watering sum of money would be tempting to FSG, but Coutinho is such a special player that replacing him (even with that much to spend) will be incredibly tricky.

Luis Suarez, speaking to Mundo Deportivo this week, praised Coutinho's commitment following the breakdown of his dream move, saying "he is demonstrating as a professional who has the ambition to take a step further".

"He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level".
