Democrats Demand Sessions Testify Before Senate Judiciary Committee-Again

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) demanded that Sessions clarify his past statements and Sen.

But Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, said Thursday that he told House investigators that he informed Sessions about a trip he was taking to Russian Federation during the 2016 campaign.

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times. "Completely unrelated to my limited volunteer role with the campaign and as I've done dozens of times throughout my life".

During his confirmation hearing in January, Sessions told Sen. Revelations that the attorney general was previously in a meeting with former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos and was told about Page's trips to Russian Federation have been raised by lawmakers as a subject of further inquiry.

President Donald Trump's former campaign national co-chair Sam Clovis has ixnayed his own nomination to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's top scientist post.

Former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page privately testified Thursday that he mentioned to Jeff Sessions he was traveling to Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential campaign - as new questions emerge about the attorney general's comments to Congress about Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

That 2016 offer was revealed Monday, when Special Counsel Robert Mueller unsealed court documents relating to his investigation of Russian efforts to influence the election. "I am deeply troubled that this newest revelation strongly suggests that the Senate ― and the American public ― can not trust your word".

Sessions was present at that meeting, and former campaign adviser J.D. Gordon told The New York Times that Sessions opposed the idea "and he said no one should talk about" the proposed meeting because Sessions did not want the idea associated with the Trump campaign.

"I only had a few e-mails in my inbox from him".

"Let's remember that this is about Russian interference in our election and that is at the very heart of our system of democracy and we're trying to find out whether the Trump campaign cooperated", Franken said. "There were questions that elicited exactly the kind of information that the Papadopoulos plea agreement made".

"That was the only time our informal committee actually got together with then-candidate Trump".
