Food processing is top priority of Government: PM Modi

The Guinness world record has been set during the ongoing World India Food event, which has been organized by the government of India in the national capital.

Hailing the farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called them central to the government's efforts in the field of food processing.

The dish will be unveiled as an Indian super food at the global food show, World Food Indian 2017, which has been organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). India has jumped thirty places this year, in the World Bank Doing Business rankings.

Citing an example, he said over a million passengers have a meal on a train in India, every single day.

800 Kilograms Khichdi is going to be made by ace Chef Sanjeev Kapoor at the World Food India 2017 today in a bid to create a world record and popularise it as Brand India food globally.

Taking the stage during the inaugural session, PM Modi hailed India's rising economy by claiming that India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. "Simple, home-based techniques, such as fermentation, have resulted in the creation of our famous pickles, papads, chutneys and murabbas that excite both the elite and the masses across the world", Modi said.

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal noted that today is a historic day where 1st Mega Food Event is launched in India.

"Over 11 billion dollars worth of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are to be signed over the next three days". She said she is looking forward to collaborating with global companies in the sector.

"We anticipate an investment of about $50 million during the next five years as we focus on growing and expanding our presence in India", Hershey India chairman and managing director Praveen Jakate said.

Khichdi will be promoted as "Brand India food" at the event. "This is a clear opportunity for global supermarket chains considering India as a major outsourcing hub", he said.

India will host over 2,000 participants and over 200 companies from 30 countries.

Now the most important information of all: World Food India will hold a "Great India Food Street" event curated by chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
