Three dead in brutal Walmart shooting; gunman still at large

Thornton, Colo: The police in Colorado on Thursday captured a man who they had said calmly walked into a suburban Denver Walmart and fatally shot three people before driving away.

An anonymous tipster spotted Ostrem's vehicle not far from his apartment at around 8 a.m. Thursday and notified police, who Avila says were nearly immediately on his tail.

Coroner Monica Broncucia-Jordan said Thursday that 52-year-old Pamela Marques, 66-year-old Carlos Moreno, and 26-year-old Victor Vasquez died in the shooting.

SWAT officers who helped with the arrest did use a "flash bang" to distract Ostrem, Avila said.

The names of the victims have not been released though Tiffany Wilson, Director of Walmart Communications, did confirm that all Walmart staff has been accounted for.

Mr Avila said a man nonchalantly entered the store and fired a handgun into a group of people before fleeing in a auto.

Colorado authorities have identified a man who police say nonchalantly walked into a Walmart and immediately opened fire, killing two men and a woman Wednesday night. He was arrested 14 hours following a brief auto chase that ended at a congested intersection, police said. "That's truly what took the longest amount of time". "I ran out, too, because I didn't want to get shot".

David Heidt (Height) of B&M Roofing said 47-year-old Scott Ostrem worked in the company's metal fabrication shop for the last three years without any problems. The Walmart is part of the centre. The shooting took place at the Walmart Supercenter at 9901 Grant Street.

"It took a while because it was so many people, it was mass chaos in there", Avila said.

Was anyone else in the Walmart armed?

Avila said Ostrem had a minor criminal history but did not elaborate.
