New Yorkers Celebrate Halloween Despite Deadly Terror Attack

After a terrorist drove a truck onto a bike bath in downtown Manhattan yesterday, killing at least 8 people and injuring dozens others, New Yorkers responded in the only way they know how: keep on livin'. But officials are emphasizing that New Yorkers should feel safe.

Police apprehended the suspect identified as Sayfullo Saipov, 29, an Uzbek national who entered the US legally in 2010 and has been linked to Islamic State.

Just after 3 p.m., six people were killed after a truck plowed into several people on a bike path on the West Side Highway about a mile from the start of the parade route.

The driver eventually came to a stop beneath the TriBeCa Bridge at Chambers Street where he got out of the auto and was shot. "If we change our lives, if we contort ourselves to them, then they win and we lose".

"We will proceed with the parade and certainly we've added more resources, more police officers, heavy weapons teams blocker vehicles on the street leading to the route as well as more sand trucks", NYPD Chief Carlos Gomez said. Mayor Bill de Blasio stated this event a 'cowardly act of terror'.

"Tonight we're at a Halloween parade to say you didn't win and you didn't affect us", Cuomo told CNN's Anderson Cooper. De Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo made an appearance in the parade as well, marching a few blocks up near 14th Street.
