#9 Irish Romp In 35-14 Win Over #14 Wolfpack

Notre Dame faced its largest deficit of the season when NC State opened the scoring with a fumble recovery off a blocked punt with just over 10 minutes left in the first quarter.

While Notre Dame is a very strong opponent (they aren't in the top 10 for nothing), and one there is little shame in losing to, with multiple key injuries complicating things for State, losing in the fashion the Pack did is never fun. With the playmakers that Notre Dame have on defense, Finley better be careful with the football.

"Just growing up in the Midwest in a Catholic home and going to Catholic church and Catholic grade school, Catholic high school, obviously Notre Dame is something that is talked about a lot", Doeren said Wednesday during the ACC's weekly teleconference. Central (3:30 p.m. Eastern).

And then we're back live on the field with highlights and reaction, with NewsCenter 16 right after the game. Sophomore receiver Kelvin Harmon, who was a bright spot against the Fighting Irish with seven catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, is still a big-play threat, good for at least one "Mossed" style catch per game.

The Notre Dame rushing attack totaled 318 yards against the nation's sixth-ranked rushing defense, busting NC State's average coming into the game (91.3) by almost 230 yards. The Irish are 6-1 against the spread as well, covering in all six wins.

There are so many that can be used: Snapping Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley's streak of 339 passes without an interception, limiting him to a 46-percent completion rate (17 of 37) after entering at 69.4 percent, the second straight Irish game without a turnover (and fourth in the last five), the enormous disparity in rushing yardage (318-50) Notre Dame owned... N.C. State, 4-0 in league play, is probably out of the national championship picture. Last week, they crushed USC, effectively eliminating the Trojans from the College Football Playoff conversation. However, when you include bowl games - which have been done since 2002 - Allen Pinkett had 1,505 yards rushing in 1983 and Brooks 1,458 in 1992. N.C. State, re-freshened after a bye week, comes in with six straight victories, including stunners over Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division rivals Florida State (27-21) and Louisville (39-25).

On a day in which he surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark in the fewest carries (110) in school history, Adams tacked on a 77-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave the Irish their 35-14 lead. Their only loss was to Georgia, and I don't think N.C. State has Georgia's defense.

It's the second loss of the season for the Wolfpack, whose previous defeat came in the season opener against SC. Their run defense has been tough, but I don't think they have faced a ground attack like what Notre Dame has. But Doeren has seen the Golden Dome many times. We didn't talk about winning any games this year.

With eight weeks of college football in the books, there is a clash between two top 15 programs.
